Ventures in Growing Stewards – 2017

Ventures in Growing Stewards is a four part workshop series that develops a foundation for stewardship education, planning and year-round stewardship in the congregation. Congregations receive guidance on developing a Missional Spending Plan (Narrative Budget). Ventures focuses on the work that a Stewardship Committee or Team is doing in a congregation to grow well formed steward leaders and grow generosity. The pastor(s) and lay persons responsible for stewardship are invited to be workshop participants. Leadership for these sessions is provided by trained Stewardship Specialist using materials provided by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Office of Stewardship. Pastor Angela Jennings, Pastor, St. Timothy, Camden, serves as Ventures Leader.

A Year of Service to Congregations

On March 4th, 2017, I had the privilege of participating in the 2nd Annual ELCA StewardCast, webinar (broadcast live from ELCA HQ in Chicago) and introducing Pastor Melinda Wagner (Co-pastor of First Immanuel Lutheran Church – Region 1, Oregon Synod) along with 3 members of her congregation. They do a wonderful job of sharing their e-giving story which they started in earnest when they decided to participate in the 2015 ELCA Online Giving Pilot with 128 other ELCA churches.

2016 Tanzania Safe Water Report

The Tanzania Safe Water initiative began during the SC Synod Mission trip to the Southwest Diocese in July 2012. Bill Dukes and representatives from Water Missions International visited 4 villages in the diocese to share the story of Safe Water with the members of the villages and to determine if a suitable water source was available. Bishop Herman Yoos endorsed a fund raising effort to develop Safe Water systems in the SW Diocese. In 2013, the SC Synod and Water Missions International formed a partnership to construct Safe Water Systems.

Nominate your youth for Bishop’s School 2017

ELCA Region Nine, annually offers an opportunity for serious theological study for outstanding high school students (who have completed 10th, 11th, or 12th grade). It is a life-changing experience for many. The purpose of Bishop’s School is to provide in-depth exposure to solid theological thinking and inquiry by bringing together about 30 youth who will spend five days together with faculty from ELCA colleges and Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary and one of the bishops of ELCA Region Nine–this year hosted by Bishop Herman Yoos of the South Carolina Synod. The 2017 Bishop’s School will take place July 25-29 at Camp Kinard in Batesburg-Leesville, SC, and the application deadline is March 15.
