The Reverend Robert G. Coon (Bob), 76, devoted husband of 54 years to Ann Barker Coon, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, November 18, 2022.
Born in Lincolnton, NC, he was the son of Nellie Brown Coon and the late Robert Clarence Coon.
Bob attended Lenoir-Rhyne University and Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. He retired after 33 years as the pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church and went on to become the CEO of Lutheran Homes of South Carolina Foundation.
Bob met Ann at Lenoir-Rhyne, fell in love, and married in July of 1968 in Staunton, VA. Shortly thereafter, they started their family. They enjoyed spending time with their family, friends, church congregation, and sweet dog, Callie.
In addition to his mother, Nellie of Clemmons, NC, Bob’s legacy will forever be cherished in the hearts of his loving wife, Ann; two wonderful children, Elizabeth Piller and husband, Shannon of Greenville, SC, Robert W. Coon and wife, Lindsay of Little Rock, AR; eight precious grandchildren, Will and Jay Boone, Lucy, Sally, and Sam Coon, Tyler, Coley, and Justin Piller; and his loving sister, Nancy Lineback and husband, Ed of Winston Salem, NC.
Bob was a very faithful, generous, outgoing, adorable and loving man. He meant so much to so many people over the years. In his own words, he truly “lived a wonderful life”.
A memorial service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. The entombment of cremated remains will immediately follow in the church columbarium. A reception will be held in the church multipurpose room just following this interment service.
