We Pray for the Family of The Rev. Paul Allen Hirth

The Rev. Paul Allen Hirth, 84, passed peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, after a long-fought battle with dementia.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 20, 2023, at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 8160 Old State Road, Cameron, SC.

He was a graduate of Lower Merion High School near Philadelphia, PA. He graduated from Drexel University with a B.A. in Business Administration in 1961 before entering the Mount Airy Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, where he graduated with a Masters of Divinity in 1965. Paul was ordained in September 1965, and served as a Lutheran Pastor for 55 years, where he was the Pastor of 4 churches in Pennsylvania, and one church for 12 years in Westville, New Jersey. He was a leader and member of many Synod committees both in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He took an early retirement and moved to Elloree, SC, in 2005, where he was a Supply Pastor for many churches in SC, as well as serving as an Interim Pastor for many other churches, the longest for 3 ½ years at Trinity Lutheran in Elloree. He was an exceptional Preacher and friend to so many parishioners throughout the years, and will be remembered for his kindness and sense of humor. Paul was an avid golfer and fisherman throughout his lifetime, as well as a standout baseball pitcher in his younger days in High School and College. He was offered a professional contract with the Phillies while in College, but was not able to pursue it as he encountered a back injury before graduation. He was a loving husband to Peggy, recently celebrating their 40th Anniversary, where they had many great adventures together throughout the years.

He is survived by his wife; his loving daughter, Heidi Mark; loving sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Bob Hinkle; precious granddaughter and grandson, Noel and Eric Mark; his son Jeffrey Hirth; niece and nephew, Debbie  and Michael Bono; and many cousins and wonderful friends.

A special thank you to Traditions Hospice and their exceptional staff who have taken care of Paul for the past 10 months.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Resurrection Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 427, Cameron, SC 29030.

Almighty God, source of all mercy and giver of comfort: Deal graciously, we pray, with those who mourn, that, casting all their sorrow on you, they may know the consolation of your love; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
