I am happy to share the delightful news that the South Carolina Synod Council has issued a call to the Rev. Gregory S. Brown to serve as Assistant to the Bishop. Pastor Greg begins his ministry on the synod staff today, October 1, 2026.
Pastor Greg is a 2009 graduate of Lander University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music (Vocal Performance). He earned his Master of Divinity from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary of Lenoir-Rhyne University in 2013 and was ordained on July 27, 2013, when he was installed as associate pastor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fairport, NY. In 2016, he was called as pastor to St. Stephen’s ELCA in Hickory, NC. In 2019, he was called to serve as senior pastor at St. David Lutheran Church in West Columbia, South Carolina.
In addition to parish ministry, Pastor Greg serves as a Chaplain in the South Carolina Army National Guard, having served at the battalion, brigade, and division levels. He first joined the National Guard at age 17 as an enlisted soldier before receiving his commission in 2009. In 2022, he deployed in support of Operation European Assure, Deter, and Reinforce. He currently serves as Command Chaplain at the 263d Army Air and Missile Defense Command, headquartered in Anderson.
Pastor Greg brings to this role a broad range of ministry experience, leadership expertise, and a deep dedication to serving both local congregations and the wider community.
Pastor Greg is married to the former Leah Collier, and they have three children: twins Jackson and Reagan, and Tucker.
We look forward to having Pastor Greg on staff, and we hope you will join us in welcoming him warmly to the South Carolina Synod! I am always grateful for your partnership in the gospel, and your prayers and support for our synod staff as we continue to move through transitions this Fall are deeply appreciated.
+In Christ,
Bishop Wade Roof
