We Welcome Bill Newmyer as our Part Time Synod Youth Ministry Coordinator. He will begin on October 1 and will oversee our LCY and South Carolina Synod youth ministries. Below is an introduction to him and why he is so qualified to lead this ministry. His email address is email@example.com.
Bill Newmyer has been involved in synod youth ministry since 2000 when he attended his first SCLCY Convention as an adult visitor. Since then he’s been hooked on working with the youth of SC. He quickly became a small group leader at Winter Retreats and Convention and around 2003 started helping write curriculum for the retreats. In 2006, he volunteered to lead Camp HUGG (a week-long day camp for special needs teenagers in the greater Lexington area sponsored by SCLCY) continues in the role today. Over the past 14 years, he’s helped grow Camp HUGG to a second week, Camp GIFT, which continues the camp experience for college-age staff and 21+ years old campers.Bill is a past chairperson of the SC Synod Youth Ministry Cabinet. Bill is also excited to chair the Love Project Task Force which is exploring ways to expand our LCY Love Projects to the entire summer!
Bill is super excited about the opportunity to serve the synod and SCLCY as the Synod Youth Ministry Coordinator this year and to see what plans God has in store for the future of SCLCY. He looks forward to working closely with the SCLCY Executive Council as they plan and execute the vision of the Synod youth ministry cabinet. He is also excited to share some new ideas for spreading the joy and fun of SCLCY with congregations that might not be familiar with SC synod youth ministry.
Bill has been married to Martie for the past 28 years and has two children, Jillian (former SCLCY president) and Kenny (current SCLCY vice-president). Originally from Pennsylvania, he and Martie moved to Columbia, SC from Pittsburgh, PA over 22 years ago. Bill has a BS from Penn State and MS degree from the University of TN in Nuclear Engineering and works as a consultant in nuclear safety. During his free time you’ll find him begging someone to play board games with him or watching the latest sci-fi series on Netflix.
