Christ Lutheran Church, Hilton Head Island, will be planting a tree in memory of “THE KNOWN AND UNKNOWN VICTIMS OF COVID-19” on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at 10am on the grounds of the church at 829 Wm. Hilton Parkway.
Bruno Landscape and Nursery has donated a red Don Mac Camellia that will be planted close to the bike path. Moved by news reports of the unknown victims, especially the poor and homeless, buried in mass graves during this pandemic; Christ Lutheran is planting this tree to honor these victims and to be a natural reminder of this global tragedy for years to come.
The brief program will include words for the occasion, prayers for the victims and for the wider community, and the planting and blessing of the tree. At the conclusion, all gathered will be invited to take one of the small bottles of water provided to water the tree and offer a silent prayer for the victims.
This weekend is the celebration of Pentecost for the Christian church as we remember the gift of the Spirit among us. The color red in the camellia blossoms reflects the color of Pentecost.
In order to insure proper social distancing, those who plan to attend are encouraged, but not required, to let the church know by Friday, May 29th at 5pm. Please call Pastor Mary Anderson, 803.210.5757, to sign up to attend or for other questions regarding this event.
