Miriam Circle at Mt. Horeb supports newberry nursing

The Newberry College Department of Nursing has received a $500 donation from the Miriam Circle Women of the ELCA at Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church, Chapin, SC.

Dr. Jenny Lindler, Directory of Nursing, and Dr. Jerry Alewine, Dean of the department, accepted the check from Georgie Fulmer and Mary Epting.

As the Miriam Circle found it necessary to disband due to deaths, moves and maturing, they chose to donate their treasury funds to the Nursing Department. The South Carolina Women of the ELCA has established a permanent endowment to the nursing program which began in 2009.  To date there have been 231 graduates. The students engage in clinicals at Newberry and Lexington County hospitals as well as with students throughout the Newberry County school system.

Ground was broken earlier this year for the new Darby Nursing and Health Science Facility.  It will accommodate the growing needs of the department and enhance training opportunities.

The Women of the ELCA view their donation as a good investment in the young men and women who will be providing health care and healing to the church, society and the world.

For more information abut the program, and ways to support it, contact either Dr. Lindler or Dr. Alewine at 803-321-5670.
