Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands “From Darkness to Light”

Join us for a seminar led by Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands! STSM advocates for and supports survivors of sexual assault and abuse and educates the community to identify and prevent sexual violence. This seminar will include workshops entitled Darkness to Light and Healing the Hidden Wounds and is intended for faith leaders, clergy, and advocates who are interested in helping learn how to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse and respond to survivors in pastoral counseling. The Darkness to Light training is a nationally distributed, evidence-based program proven to increase knowledge, improve attitudes, and change child protective behavior. Healing the Hidden Wounds is focused on responding to disclosures of sexual assault and abuse in pastoral counseling and ways to support survivors on their healing journey.

North Carolina and South Carolina Lutherans worship for 500th Anniversary Observance of the Reformation

Just over 800 voices were raised in worship and song during the 500th Anniversary Observance of the Reformation on Saturday, September 23, at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. Lutherans from both the North Carolina and South Carolina Synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) were joined by their bishops: the Rev. Timothy M. Smith, of the NC Synod, ELCA, and the Rev. Herman R. Yoos, of the SC Synod, ELCA. A number of ecumenical guests were also present including the Rev. Dr. George E. Battle, Senior Bishop of the A.M.E. Zion Church, Presiding Prelate of the Piedmont Episcopal District, and the Most Rev. Peter Joseph Jugis, Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charlotte, both of whom brought greetings to those gathered.
