Boy Scouts of America Bankruptcy Informational Document Available

South Carolina Synod Congregations – please take note:

Important Information. Please review the attachment and keep in mind these two things:

  1. We do not and cannot give legal advice to congregations.
  2. If your congregation has ever hosted (and especially if they actually chartered) a Boy Scout Troop, you should be aware of a very important deadline of Nov. 16 to file.

This is an ELCA (my denomination) document available to the public, also not legal advice, that we suggest you look at and get ASAP to the appropriate leaders in your congregation or organization. It has to do with sexual abuse claims against the Boy Scouts and the Bankruptcy the Boy Scouts are filing for and how your congregation could well be liable. At this point you know what we know, so we have no further information beyond the FAQs here.
