Reverend Steven Douglas Jackson, 65, of Newberry, SC, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2022.
He was born on February 16, 1957, in Key West, FL to the late Ted Douglas and Laurrine Grace Boshans Jackson. He was a graduate of Newberry College and obtained his Master of Divinity from the Lutheran Seminary in Columbia. He had served as pastor at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Pomaria, SC, Silverstreet Lutheran in Silverstreet, SC, and presently serving St. Matthew’s Lutheran in Pomaria, SC. He was a member of the Mid Carolina Ministerial Association.
Pastor Steve faithfully served on the Pomaria Rescue Squad, the Pomaria Fire Department, and had served as a chaplain and reserve officer with the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office for a number of years.
Steve had the biggest heart, an infectious laugh, and held a passion for sharing God’s grace with the world as a pastor. He loved to serve the church family and community with his caring nature, compassion for others, and steadfast prayers.
He is survived by his sister, Susan (Wayne) Young; his niece, Amy (Nic) Whisnant; his nephew, Brad (Jordan) Young; a great-nephew, Sawyer Young, three great-nieces, Kate Young, Logan Whisant and Collins Whisnant; former step-daughter, Brianna Beckom and step-granddaughter, Amaiya Beckom.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, October 13, 2022, at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Pomaria, SC with the service to be conducted by Bishop Ginny Aebischer, of the SC Evangelical Lutheran Synod.
