Overview

The Racial Justice Team, part of the SC Synod’s Inclusive Network, is sponsoring a Civil Rights Tour to Atlanta, Georgia from September 15-16, 2026.

This two-day event will take participants to the National Center for Civil Rights on the first day. Afterwards we will enjoy dinner at Mary Mac’s Tea Room and then have thoughtful discussion and evening devotions at our overnight stay at the Courtyard by Marriott in Atlanta. The following day we will begin by visiting the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., National Historic Park and then travel that afternoon to the Carter Center at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum complex where our focus will be on human rights and peace efforts promoted by President Carter.

The tour group handling our travel and reservations to Atlanta is Capitol Tours of West Columbia. Participants will depart for Atlanta from the Capital Tours Office located at 2926 Leaphart Road and return there.

The tour package includes motorcoach transportation, 1 night hotel accommodation, 1 breakfast, 1 dinner, baggage handling, admission cost to museums, and gratuities for meals and the motorcoach driver.

Reservations and deposit are due before April 8, 2026. The SC Synod is generously supporting this tour by underwriting 50% of the cost to members of SC Synod congregations. The fees represented on the SC Synod flyer are the participants’ investment in the trip.
