Worship and Holy Communion – May 30th

By Pastor Lisa Isenhower

The Reverend George Oshiba, president of the Japan Evangelical Lutheran Church, presided at evening worship at SC Synod Assembly on Thursday. The worship service included readings in Spanish and in English as well as lots of congregational singing.

Bishop Herman Yoos preached on Luke 10:25-37, in which Jesus responds to the lawyer’s question “and who is my neighbor?” by relating the parable of the Good Samaritan. Bishop Yoos’s message focused on finding common ground with our neighbors and fellow church members. He pointed out that we don’t have to agree with one another on politics and social issues like immigration in order to agree on important issues of offering compassionate help to our neighbors in need.

Rev. Jim Parham served as accompanist for the worship service, and Revs. Christine C. R. Parham and Andrea Rice were cantors. The music and the message were joyful and uplifting. The offering gathered will be used to help in building Christo Rey’s new worship and outreach center.
