On Sunday night, Dr. Wayne Kannaday began a three-part teaching moment on the Small Catechism. Pointing to the red doors at the front of the assembly hall, he reminded us that our church doors are red as a reminder that we can only enter the fellowship of Christ through the blood of Jesus.
Then reading from Luther’s explanation of the Creed:
I believe that by my own understanding or strength I cannot believe in Jesus Christ my Lord or come to him, but instead the Holy Spirit has called me through the gospel, enlightened me with his gifts, made me holy and kept me in the true faith, just as he calls, gathers, enlightens, and makes holy the whole Christian church on earth and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one common, true faith. Daily in this Christian church the Holy Spirit abundantly forgives all sins—
None of us comes into faith on our own. At some point in our lives, someone led us into faith. Who led you through the red doors, and into faith?
