The ELCA Young Adults in Global Mission Program (YAGM) has called 87 young adults into service, beginning in August. The program has grown significantly since its inception in 1999. This year’s number of 87 is a 20% increase from last year alone. This growth is made possible through generous individuals, congregations, and synods who support this program and the faithful young adults who answer God’s call to service.
Two of the 87 newly appointed YAGM are from the South Carolina Synod. Emily Richardson from Bethlehem, Irmo and Rebekah Swygert from Mount Hermon, West Columbia. They will serve for the next year in Uruguay and Hungary respectively.
They both will be sharing the news of their service widely through blogs, newsletters, and Skype calls.
Individuals in the program are required to raise $4,000 to help pay so they may serve where they are called. Through your regular mission support the ELCA will be paying $9,000 to help support these young adults answer the call.
