By Elliot Cox, South Carolina Lutheran Retreat Centers

Early last year, the South Carolina Lutheran Retreat Centers entered into Phase II of the Building+Renewing+Believing Capital Campaign with the focus on renewing many of the existing facilities at Camp Kinard and Coastal Retreat. One of the major goals of the campaign was the much needed replacement of the 32 year old roof and surrounding soffits at Coastal Retreat.

We are blessed to say that thanks to generous pledges and support from donors, the roof replacement is now complete and all costs associated with the project have been fully funded!

In addition to the roof project at Coastal Retreat, Phase II also aimed to complete several other priorities at Camp Kinard, including renovating Cottage bathrooms and installing additional showers with on-demand water heaters. Priorities also included the installation of new HVAC units in each building and new mattresses in half of the cottages.

“Even though a number of projects have already been completed, there are still many areas that we feel need to be addressed”, shared SCLRC Executive Director Dallas Shealy. “We hope that everyone will take a look at the many different areas we’d like to ‘renew’ and contribute towards making these special places even better for the many guests who experience life-changing retreats year after year!”

Each year, the South Carolina Lutheran Retreat Centers play host to a variety of groups including youth, older adults, men’s and women’s groups, weddings, baptisms, bereavement retreats, special camps, and many others! With such a diverse population, we strive to provide facilities that help enhance retreat experiences of all our guests.
