Pilgrim Lutheran Church participated in flood relief efforts in many tangible ways. We had members of our congregation who lived in Willow Creek apartment complex. It was completely flooded and they lost everything on their bottom floor, including both of their vehicles. We coordinated teams of community members to remove everything that was salvageable on the 2nd floor and to begin cleaning out their destroyed bottom floor. A Go Fund Me page was also started for this family.
Pilgrim was a collection point for first responder care packages. Snacks, bottled water, cleaning supplies, clean socks and full meals were organized and delivered to 5 fire stations within the Columbia/Lexington/Irmo area. In addition, a group of teachers, administrators and students from the Midway Elementary and Lexington One school district came together to put together sack lunches for those children who were out of school and not receiving meals during that time.
The Local Girl Scout troop that meets weekly at Pilgrim, collected cleaning supplies, household items, and perishable food to be delivered to those that were displaced from the flood. We are thankful for the community support and for the continued efforts of all.
