Come and See

By Deacon Dallas J. Shealy

Executive Director of The South Carolina Lutheran Retreat Centers

“Come and see!” is echoed several times in the New Testament. Philip told Nathanael he had met the Messiah. “Come and see,” he urged his friend. The woman at the well told her fellow villagers, “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did” (John 4:29). After Jesus rose from the dead, an angel invited the women to “come and see” His empty tomb (Matthew 26:6).

When is the last time you visited one of the South Carolina Lutheran Retreat Centers?

This past year, we finished up Phase II of the Building+Renewing+Believing Capital Campaign, and thanks to a number of faithful and generous donors, this ministry was able to complete significant updates and improvements at both retreat centers.
Phase II allowed for major upgrades at Camp Kinard, including new HVAC units, additional showers, and new blinds and mattresses in the Cottages. In the Lodge Rooms, recent updates include renovated bathrooms, new plantation shutters, new flooring, new bedding, and a fresh coat of paint. Camp Kinard was able to add new tables and chairs in the Dining Hall. In additional to the lodging renovations, it was a blessing to also have a labyrinth installed near the lake!

Phase II also allowed this ministry to make improvements at Coastal Retreat! The most notable was the replacement of old, leaky roof. Thanks to your support, we also had all the old cedar shakes removed and installed new red awnings. New toilets and vanities were installed in every bathroom, flooring was replaced throughout the building, and bedding was also updated. In addition to those updates, an HVAC unit was replaced, new hoods were installed over the stoves, and new tables and chairs were added in the Dining Room and Hollinger Center classroom.

Each year, we’re blessed to welcome over 6,000 individuals and 200+ groups on retreat – and we invite you to be a part of them. “Come and see” these holy spaces where God can change lives. “Come and see” what is happening at YOUR South Carolina Lutheran Retreat Centers!

What Camp Kinard hopes to construct in the near future is a 60 bed building with meeting, dining, and worship space for at least 200 people – all with spectacular views of the beautiful lake!
God has much in store for the South Carolina Lutheran Retreat Centers and we invite you to be part of these future plans!
