By Katie Scarvey, Communications Specialist, Lutheran Services Carolinas
The Rev. Marissa Krey has joined the Lutheran Services Carolinas staff as a development officer.
Marissa was born and raised in Roanoke, Virginia and is a graduate of Virginia Tech, where she studied history and political science. While there, she was active in the Lutheran Campus Ministry and discerned a call to seminary. In 2008, Marissa earned her Master of Divinity degree from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia (now United Lutheran Seminary). That same year, she began her ministry with Lutheran Advocacy Ministry in Pennsylvania (LAMPa). As an advocacy developer, Marissa worked with congregations all across the Commonwealth to strengthen their social ministry programs and expand their impact through legislative advocacy. In 2013, Marissa was called to serve as associate pastor at the Lutheran Church of God’s Love in Newtown, Penn.
In 2017, Marissa’s husband, Ben, was called to serve Christus Victor Lutheran Church in South Durham, N.C. Marissa is very happy to be back in the South and is especially excited to join LSC! Since her campus ministry days, Marissa has always felt a special call toward helping members and congregations live out their faith through service to their communities. In their free time, Marissa and Ben love to travel. They also enjoy cheering on their favorite teams – the Virginia Tech Hokies and the Boston Red Sox.
“We are excited have Pastor Marissa join the LSC development team,” said Heidi Rixman, LSC’s director of development. “Marissa’s advocacy experience will help build our advocacy efforts and awareness about LSC as she meets with donors and congregations in the Carolinas.”
