Story Matters: Connecting the Story of Jesus and Me

Grace and peace to all in the name of our Lord Jesus the Christ.

With the latest news from DHEC and the current concerns about gatherings, we in consultation with the Bishop and in the best interest of all we are going to postpone the “Story Matters” Event scheduled for March 21.

For those already registered, we will be following up shortly with more information.

Grace and peace,
The Rev. Rick Carter

Research from Luther Seminary’s Dwight Zscheile points to a future decline of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. One of the suggested solutions includes “learning how to listen to its own members’ spiritual stories and experiences in order to help connect them with the stories of scripture and theological tradition.”

Story Matters is a series of resources that focus on hearing God’s Word. It connects the process of Jesus and Me and adapts it so that a person might seek, name, and explore a specific biblical story about Jesus which connects with “their” story. Through this learning event, participants will rediscover their own spiritual stories so that others may come to understand the evangelical and theological heritage of Lutheranism.

Through this event, we will be able to put into practice the ability to listen to and tell spiritual stories of faith translated for today.

Brenda Smith, Program Director, ELCA Faith Practices and Book of Faith Initiative, leads us through the process of equipping participants to discern, deepen, and practice their faith using the biblical story to form themselves as a disciple of Christ called into mission.

Don’t miss this faith-building opportunity. Join us at Wittenberg Lutheran Church in Batesburg-Leesville on March 21, 2020 from 9:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., with registration opening at 9:00 a.m. Space is limited to 40 participants. Thanks to a generous grant from ELCA Domestic Mission and your mission support the Congregational Vitality Network can make this $117.50 workshop available for just $35.00 per person. Lunch is included.
