South Carolina Synod Civil Rights Pilgrimage

You’re invited to the first Civil Rights Pilgrimage of the South Carolina Synod to Selma and Montgomery, Alabama on September 12-13, 2019.

The bus will leave at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 12 and return on the next day at 7:00 p.m.

Thursday Highlights:

  • Spending time at the National Memorial and Museum for Peace and Justice (The Lynching Museum.)
  • Visiting the Civil Rights Museum in Montgomery.

Friday Highlights:

  • Civil Rights walking tour including Brown Chapel A.M.E.
  • Walking and praying Together the Pettus Bridge.
  • Lowndes Interpretive Center

We will be staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Selma near the Pettus Bridge. The cost of the bus trip, hotel accommodations, and museums will be $220. If you would like to arrange staying with a roommate, you are responsible for doing so. There is a $60 discount per person if you are rooming with someone at the hotel. Then you total cost for the trip would be $160.

On that page in the “Give to” dropdown select “Civil Rights Pilgrimage.” If you choosing to have a roommate, that person’s name should be on the memo line of your check or the note/memo space if paying online.

1:45-4:30 pm National Memorial & Museum for Peace & Justice

4:45-5:45 pm Civil Rights Museum

6:00-7:15 pm Supper and Leave for Selma

8:45 pm Holiday Inn (near to Pettus Bridge)

7:30 am Breakfast

8:45 am Walking Tour of Brown Chapel AME & MLK Monument/Walk & Prayer at Pettus Bridge

9:30 am Leave Selma

9:45 am Visit Lowndes Interpretive Center

11:15 am Leave for Columbia

Lunch on the way

7:00 pm Arrive back in Columbia
