dementiaDr. Macie Smith and the Columbia Urban League present In Our Community…Dementia Speaks. What we know about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia is evolving every day. Therefore, we have developed a 3-day education opportunity designed to inform family caregivers about the effects of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.

If you are a caregiver or you provide support for someone living with dementia, this education program is for you. Social Workers working with families dealing with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia are also encouraged to attend.

Topic Covered / Questions Answered:

  • What is Alzheimer’s disease and/or Dementia?
  • What causes Dementia?
  • What are the Treatment strategies?
  • How to Respond to Behaviors?
  • What are the Legal implications?
  • What are the available Resources?

Upon completion of the 3-day program, participants will receive a Dementia Care Partner certificate. Social Work continuing education hours have been requested through the Board of Social Work Examiners.

The education program and continuing education hours are provided at no cost to participants through funding from the Lt. Governor’s Office on Aging.
