Herman YoosToday Governor Haley invited every church, synagogue, mosque and place of worship to open its doors for prayer on November 22 at noon and to ring your bells if you have them at that hour.

In a phone call with religious leaders across the state, Governor Haley lifted up 3 concerns.

  1. The ongoing relief efforts and recovery from Hurricane Matthew.
  2. The trial of Police Officer Slager in Charleston who shot Walter Scott and whose verdict will soon be coming.
  3. The trial of Dylan Roof which will be starting in Charleston as soon as the jury is selected.

Please let your congregation know about this invitation to prayer. Recently I heard Sheriff Lott say that he believes the people of South Carolina are leading the nation in ways to deal with racial injustices and that other Law Enforcement Officials are looking to this state to see how to build relationships of trust and transparency with all our communities.

It is rare for a governor to reach out to all the religious communities in our state with an invitation for prayer. I hope you will participate by hosting a noon prayer service with an open invitation to your surrounding community.

In Christ,
Herman R. Yoos
