A Message from Bishop Yoos: Trustworthy Servants of the People of God

Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,

At the recent Conference of Bishops meeting in Chicago there was time spent reflecting together on a draft called “Trustworthy Servants of the people of God” which will take the place of “Vision and Expectations.” Following this conversation a Pastoral Message was written and approved by the Conference apologizing for the uneven and hurtful ways the “Vision and Expectations” document was used by candidacy committees especially towards LBGTQIA candidates.

As you will note the “Trustworthy Servants of the People of God” document is in draft form and will be sent to the Church Council to review or to make changes to before its final adoption. All rostered leaders are welcome to make recommendations to their synod bishop before March 18, 2019 so that the Church Council can receive and review them in a timely manner.

You may send your comments, both positive and negative, to me at herman@scsynod.com. I look forward to hearing from you about ways to improve this document. I am aware that a number of rostered leaders are frustrated by the process used in writing this document, but at this time your comments are needed to address the substance of the document rather than the process.

I look forward to continuing the conversation.

In Christ’s peace,

The Rev. Herman Yoos
Bishop,
