Growing Together

By The Rev. Chris Heavner, Pastor, Lutheran Campus Ministry, Clemson

On March 17, 2018, a Small Leaf Linden was planted in Wittenberg, Germany, for the Lutheran Campus Ministry in Clemson, South Carolina, USA. Students from this Ministry travel to Wittenberg regularly. The 2018 trip was the seventh. Campus Pastor Chris Heavner organizes the trip and serves as trip leader. The first trip, undertaken in 2003, was to encourage three students who were discerning a call to public ministry. Eight trips have now been made. In addition to Wittenberg, visits are made to Eisenach, Eisleben and Erfurt.

Thirty students made the trip this year. They were joined by two youth from Magdeburg.

A “Red Oak” is to be planted in Clemson this November. November is the optimal season for planting.

The tree is identified as number 439 in the Luthergarten in Wittenberg.
