University Lutheran Clemson Recognizes Community Responders
By Patrick M Morgan, Synod Communicator
This past summer, several members of University Lutheran Church & Campus Ministry Clemson (UniLu) participated in the congregation’s tenth annual Men and Women in Blue Appreciation Day. The annual event is put on by the UniLu Evangelism Committee.
Invitations are sent out to the Clemson City Police Department, Fire Department, and EMS personnel as well as the University Department of Public Safety’s Police, Fire, and EMS personnel. Each year, the members of the Evangelism Committee, together with other volunteers from the congregation, prepare and serve a meal in the church fellowship hall for those able to attend; this year some 68 Clemson city police officers attended. In addition, other members deliver meals to the station houses of each department.
The congregation feels it is very important to show our appreciation for those men and women who literally put their lives on the line every day on behalf of the residents of the city of Clemson and the students, faculty, and staff on campus. This has become an integral part of the committee’s many outreach activities, which comprise a wide range of ongoing, periodic, and seasonal activities for the love of a generous God.
