Money Raised to Help Cristo Rey Project
By Michael Kohn
Cristo Rey, an Hispanic Lutheran mission in the midlands, is one the fastest-growing Lutheran bodies in SC! While all SC Lutheran congregations are asked to help fund Cristo Rey’s initial start, the neighboring Saxe-Gotha Conference congregations are particularly reaching out with fun, creative, and supportive ideas. Won’t you join in, too?
St. James/Red Bank held an antique auto show to raise money, and St. David/Lexington is conducting a mini-campaign, as did Zion/Lexington. For Zion, Cristo Rey’s people cooked a marvelous fiesta at the campaign’s kickoff, and their children sang songs in Spanish, while St. David’s Mariachis, under the direction of the incomparable Dr. Al Roberts, played their way into the hearts of Zion’s people, making the final gift a response and thanksgiving for what Cristo Rey and others first gave Zion. As Zion’s check for $6500 was being officially shared (see photo), Bishop Yoos reminded all that such gifts are being matched dollar for dollar by a generous angel in the Synod. What a great way to magnify impact!
Join the fun! Get your congregation involved beyond itself in a way that is appreciated and will keep on giving! Contact the Synod Office for more info: 803.765-0590. A generous offer has already been made to provide professional clearing/grading, and other contracts will soon be let in anticipation of achieving initial space for worship and fellowship on Cristo Rey’s Oak Drive site, Lexington.
