In Our Prayers: Patricia Steadman Hill
Patricia Steadman Hill
Patricia Steadman Hill, 89, passed away June 3, 2016 at her home. She was married for 66 years to The Rev. Garth Lee Hill, a Lutheran minister who died in February 2013. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Steadman Sr. of Ridge Spring, SC.
A summa cum laude graduate of Columbia College, she was editor of the yearbook, was “Miss Columbia College”, served on the Student Council for 4 years, was President of Beta Mu Kappa sorority, and a member of Who’s Who Among Students in Colleges and Universities. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School, being a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, and providing a foster home for 5 children.
She was an active volunteer for Meals on Wheels, LICS and Gilbert Community Park. A favorite ministry of hers was the PieceMakers, a quilting group that she and her husband started in their community. The PieceMakers have stitched more than 3,000 quilts. These have been donated both locally and worldwide. She was honored with a commemorative brick at the Quilters Hall of Fame in Baltimore, Maryland.
She will be forever remembered in the lives of her children Lee, Lesley, Richard, Karen, Mary Pat, Michael, her 7 grandchildren, and her 3 great grandchildren. A celebration of her life was held on Sunday, June 5th at Grace Lutheran Church, Gilbert.
Memorials may be sent to Grace Lutheran Church or to the charity of one’s choice. The family is especially grateful to the staff of Hospice Care of Tri-County, Daybreak, and Annointed Hands who provided comfort and care to both their mother and her family.
Almighty God, source of all mercy and giver of comfort: Deal graciously, we pray, with those who mourn, that, casting all their sorrow on you, they may know the consolation of your love; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
