Hurricane Matthew Update for October 21

13:32 21 October in News

By Rev. Roy Butler, South Carolina Synod Disaster Team

give-nowIf you are feeling like you have been here before in the wake of Hurricane Matthew you are not alone. Almost to the day of Hurricane Joaquim’s visitation to South Carolina, Matthew rolls in with a vengeance leaving several areas devastated by wind and water. From Beaufort, Jasper and Florence County’s wind torn landscape to the areas of Dillon, Nichols and points east who endured the perils of flood from the overflow of the Lumber, Pee Dee and Waccamaw Rivers there are many struggling to rebuild their lives and seeking refuge from the chaos of the storm.

There is much to be done. As Lutherans we have always been committed to long term ministry, to entering into the struggles and suffering of our many sisters and brothers as called by Christ. Needs are great in many areas, those mentioned above and others. Now we can help greatly by providing much needed basic items for survival until those affected are able to recover, at least partially.

Therefore we have asked the following to serve as collection points for non-perishable food items, paper products, cleaning supplies and baby items (diapers, wipes, etc.). Please contact each location for drop off times–
