Earthquake in Japan Update from Rev. Jerry Livingston, Japan Evangelical Lutheran Church Task Force
Once again Japan has experienced two major earthquakes, the second one hitting within four hours of the first one, and then there were many aftershocks, some of them being much stronger than an “ordinary” earthquake.
An email was received from one of the ELCA missionaries in Kumamoto, giving a firsthand accounting of what she was experiencing plus reporting damage to Lutheran churches and institutions. It appears there was considerable damage to our Lutheran facilities in Kumamoto. The Lutheran Church has congregations throughout Kyushu but especially in the Kumamoto area. There is not yet official word from the JELC on what happened. In the meantime I would encourage you to read the email referred to above which is linked to this article. As further word is received, it will be passed on to you.
