Donald Kreiss re-elected bishop of ELCA Southeast Michigan Synod

The Rev. Donald P. Kreiss, Detroit, was re-elected May 5 to serve a second six-year term as bishop of the Southeast Michigan Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). The election was held during the Synod Assembly May 4-6 at the Blue Water Convention Center in Port Huron, Mich.

Kreiss was re-elected on the first ballot with 190 votes. A total of 166 votes were needed for election.

Kreiss has served as bishop of the Southeast Michigan Synod in Detroit since 2011. He served as pastor of Antioch Lutheran Church in Farmington Hills from 1999 to 2011.

The bishop earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., in 1983 and a Master of Divinity from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago in 1992. The Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago is one of eight ELCA seminaries.
