About Our Assembly

Like Good Stewards

“Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received.” I Peter 4:10.

The 2024 South Carolina Synod Assembly will be held June 8, 2024.  It will be a one day online event.

Our Theme:  Like Good Stewards

Scripture Reference:  1 Peter 4:10

Working with the overall theme, “Like Good Stewards,” we have identified three subthemes to highlight.  In our very own ELW, hymns under the title Stewardship are also referenced under Creation, Offering, and Justice & Peace.  These three subthemes will be the areas that we will delve into throughout the day.  We will be sharing stories from across the Synod of how congregations, organizations, and individuals are being good stewards of their gifts and resources to care for creation, to give financially, and to work towards justice and peace.

We have been working on a way to immerse ourselves in the Word around our theme.  We are excited to share we have collaborated with Dr. Mark Allen Powell and he will be leading us in four online Bible study sessions beginning in May as we head into Assembly.

Prior to Assembly, in an effort to allow for plenty of opportunities of discussion and understanding, we will offer two pre-assembly forums, one focusing on compensation guidelines and one focusing on the proposed budget.  These forums will be held online.

We look forward to our day together as we gather to do the business of the Synod, and hear the amazing stories of ministry going on across the Synod and learn from each other.

While we know the financial benefits to a one day online Assembly, and that some people across the Synod appreciate an online Assembly as it allows those who cannot travel to participate and feel connected, we also recognize that many people miss the fellowship that gathering in person offers. To that end, we will provide watch party sites across the synod.  More information about watch parties will be shared as details are finalized.  We are a Synod gifted with so many incredible and creative leaders and we hope this enables us to celebrate in a new and creative way!

about this year’s assembly offering

ASSISTING LUTHERAN CAMPUS MINISTRY

The offering received at the 2024 South Carolina Synod Assembly worship service is designated for Campus Ministries across the synod. Food insecurity is a real issue for many students and the feeding ministries of our Campus Ministries is vital. Sharing a meal is a powerful means of welcoming people and creating community and life-giving work.

We hope all congregations will find aspecial way to gather their assembly offering and send it to be a part of the very important ministry of feeding the young adults on our college campuses across South Carolina. Your generosity furthers this mission. It is tangible graceand love!
